A panel of three images showing a mother wood duck as she leaves her nest in this duck box here at Palmetto Hall, Hilton Head, South Carolina. The whole process of her leaving takes less than 2 seconds. We have 6 working duck boxes here that we maintain. The nest she is shown leaving has 15 eggs inside which will all hatch in one day and the next day the fully formed birds will leave the nest. Mama takes they away and they really live in the woods.
Jerry Griffin retired after a career with Eastman Kodak and is living in Hilton Head, South Carolina. In his photographic career he has been a judge, author, consultant, teacher and speaker across the U.S. He has won over 250 medals and ribbons in international salons. His works have been hung in the Kodak CEO's office. After retiring he served as the Kodak Ambassador in the National Parks and on cruise ships.
