Description
Here on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina this was the first baby wood duck to come out of its shell in the nest. Mother wood duck lays about 20 eggs, most likely one per day. When they hatch they all hatch within 24 hours and leave the nest. Unlike other birds these are born fully feathered and immediately Mother Duck takes them out into the woods where it is very hard to spot them.
