Artist's Description

Darkroom manipulation done years ago of a wheel chair racer in a 10K event in Rochester, NY. I loved the juxtaposition of the legless racer and those behind him with just their legs showing. In the darkroom development process after exposing the negative, I took the half developed paper out of the developer, laid it on a tray and flicked the room lights on and off while holding a dodging tool over the face. The extra light made the remaining image go to silver rather than fully develop into whites. I was really trying to focus your eye to the young man's concentration as he gets the starting count from the starter on the left.
